“We don’t want the curse” – Many Leeds fans react to recognition of the “Messiah”

Many Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media after Marcelo Bielsa was nominated for the Championship Manager of the Month award for November.

The league announced on Thursday morning that Bielsa was up for the award, alongside West Bromwich Albion’s Slaven Bilic, Blackburn Rovers’ Tony Mowbray and Fulham’s Scott Parker.

Bielsa oversaw United go unbeaten in November with five wins from five, and end the month atop the Championship standings with a five-point margin to third-placed Fulham.

Fulham, Blackburn and West Brom all enjoyed strong Novembers too, with the Baggies ending the month unbeaten with four wins from four, while the Cottagers and Ewood Park natives both won four of their five matches played.

Parker’s Fulham had only won two of their five games played in October, while Mowbray’s Blackburn had gone through October without a win after three defeats and two draws.

Some United fans would prefer that the award goes to someone other than Bielsa, as they are afraid that we would become the latest victim of the “curse” suffered by previous winners.

Do we want Bielsa to win the MOTM award?

Yes, he deserves it

No, avoid the curse

Danny Cowley was named the October Manager of the Month for his work with Huddersfield Town, having taken three wins and two draws with the Terriers but only oversaw one win to two losses and two draws in November.

September’s Manager of the Month was Sabri Lamouchi after guiding Nottingham Forest to three wins in three, but October saw the City Ground natives take just one win to two defeats and one draw.

The same happened with August’s Manager of the Month Steve Cooper, who watched Swansea open the season with five wins and a draw, before September brought one loss and two draws to South Wales.
