Leeds United confirmed late yesterday evening that young midfielder Ronaldo Vieira had completed a permanent transfer out to Serie A side Sampdoria following the speculation across the last week.

The 20-year-old moves for an undisclosed fee, but as previously covered, it’s believed to be in the region of £7.7million which isn’t a bad return for the time we spent with the lad as long as the ceiling he seemed to hit in a troublesome year in 2017/18 is around his level, even with expected improvement.

If it’s not, as many fans to be fair believe it won’t be, that could well be an absolute snip of a fee for him in hindsight even if he’s not in manager Marcelo Bielsa’s plans for the coming season.

He’s signed a new five-year deal at his new Italian side.

Having been on trial at our Academy in 2015, he impressed and joined us, making his debut in the game against Preston North End on 2015/16’s closing day. He leaves having made a total of 71 appearances for us, scoring twice.

The official release from the club wishes him and his family ‘every success’ for the future but there are those fans who feel given his potential, not only does this remain a bad deal for us, but also that the club could’ve made a greater effort in their confirmation statement.

Ultimately, whether you agree or you don’t with some of the reaction on social media, it probably depends on which side of the fence you sit in terms of agreeing or disagreeing with the transfer outright.

Reactions were mixed though.
