Former Leeds United defender Noel Whelan believes that his old side should do all that they can to secure the services of Ben White in the summer.

Having had an astonishing season in the famous white shirt, the 22-year-old, who is about to return to Brighton after his loan spell at Elland Road, has been key in terms of helping Leeds make their long-awaited return to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side ended a 16-year wait for their return to the top flight and lifted the Championship trophy following their 4-0 victory over Charlton Athletic.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan feels that they will be in the mix to capture White on a permanent basis.

Should Leeds break the bank for White in the summer?

No way!

No way!

“It looks like there will be a real battle there”, he said.

“Brighton are looking forward to having him back and we definitely want him.

“Ben White has had a fantastic time at Leeds and he has enjoyed his time here. He is only going to get better.

“If Leeds want him they know they will have to stump up the money and the £8million save on Jack Harrison will go a fair way to it.”

With the transfer window opening on Monday, Bielsa will have to move fast if he wants to capture White early on in the summer.

Having also been linked with the likes of the Premier League champions Liverpool in recent months, Leeds will have tough competition to get their man who the fans adore.
