Gary McAllister believes that the 2-0 victory over Walsall on Saturday will send a clear message to Leeds’ League One rivals as the season draws to a close.
Two goals from Jermaine Beckford were enough to seal victory over the Saddlers, who continued to struggle today as they limped to a late, 1-1 draw with relegation candidates Crewe Alexandra.
Gary Mac was speaking to leedsunited.com:
‘We played well and we deserved the three points, to do both makes for a decent Easter.
“They only breached us once. After conceding three at Port Vale last week we defended well. We held a stronger line and the two centre-backs headed away more than they have in the eight games before.
“The cameras were here and we sent out a message on Saturday.”
The boss was also full of praise for the double-hitting Beckford and his new found strike partner Dougie Freedman, the pair obviously enjoying playing together:
“Jermaine Beckford scored twice and there’s no finer sight than seeing a young striker with his confidence again. He looked a real threat.”
“Dougie Freedman was excellent alongside a very sharp Beckford – look at some of the positions our forward got in. Their movement was terrific and I don’t know any defence that would have coped.”
