Football Association disciplinary chiefs will consult police and view video evidence before deciding whether to charge Neil Warnock.
The Sheffield United manager was banished to the stands by referee Graham Poll and forcibly removed from his technical area by a police officer at half-time during Tuesday night’s fiercely-contested Yorkshire derby with Leeds.
The 57-year-old now faces the prospect of a touchline ban and may have to watch his side kick off the new season in the top flight from the stands.
FA Spokesman: ‘We have received Graham Poll’s report and we’re obviously now considering that.
‘I cannot go into details, but it’s now a question of accumulating all the information.
‘We will speak to various people, including the police, and will study video evidence before deciding what, if any, action needs to be taken.
‘There are no set sanctions for any of our disciplinary charges.’
Warnock must already answer a charge of improper conduct following his side’s 2-1 defeat at Norwich last month when he flicked a V-sign at opposite number Nigel Worthington.
He has requested a personal hearing, but a date has yet to be set.
In October he admitted to another charge of abusing a match official at Reading where his side went down 2-1 and was warned over his future conduct.
After the match Warnock said: ‘I am very disappointed to be sent off and I don’t think it was warranted at all.
‘I made a comment to Blackie about his players’ tackles and the fourth official took offence to that.
‘Some of the comments that were directed at him from some of Kevin’s staff were more direct to the official.
‘And yet nothing has been done and I don’t accept that.
‘For me, it’s a vendetta by the fourth official to get me sent off and I don’t accept it.
‘If it had been someone else this wouldn’t have happened. It was a complete over-reaction.’
Blackwell said: ‘The sending-off is for Neil to talk about, not me.
‘There was some passion in the game, that’s for sure, and if anyone thought either side was just going to give it up they were sadly mistaken.’
