“Wait A Little Bit” – Bielsa Coy On When New Leeds Addition Will Debut

|

With Leeds United making a deadline day capture of Arsenal starlet Eddie Nketiah to top off our summer transfer window business, few fans I think expected him to instantly take to the pitch in Saturday’s Championship clash with Nottingham Forest.

The 20-year-old striker wasn’t amongst the matchday group selected by manager Marcelo Bielsa, but as we’ve seen from Helder Costa’s involvement so far, the Argentine gaffer is patient and speaking to Leeds Live following the game, he did imply that it was possible fans wouldn’t see him in the EFL Cup clash next Tuesday against Salford City either.

“Maybe he plays on Tuesday. He didn’t do any training with the team until now. I prefer to wait a little bit to say if he’s going to play on Tuesday.”

I would imagine in that one, we’ll probably definitely see our capture from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but it’s understandable (given what Bielsa asks for from players) that he wants Nketiah to get at least a solid week of training under his belt before he really comes into his thoughts.

With loan restrictions meaning we can only select five players, I think most fans will understand his approach, but we haven’t brought him in to simply waste some of the wage bill, he’ll get game time in the future.

Whether that is Tuesday or not, we’ll simply have to wait and see.
