Nigel Martyn was the runaway leader in the latest Vital Leeds poll, grabbing a massive 61% of the votes.

We asked you just who you thought was the greatest Leeds United goalkeeper of all time, with 13 shot-stoppers to choose from!

Martyn, who spent 6 seasons as Leeds’ first choice keeper retired in 2006 having spent the twilight of his career between the posts for David Moyes’ Everton was miles ahead of any other keeper with his 61%

Not bad for a goalkeeper who Ian Holloway told the BBC in his regular column, had been discovered by the Bristol Rovers tea lady! ‘ She went on holiday to Cornwall, saw him play for St Blazey and said ‘you’re a bit good, why don’t you come up to Bristol Rovers for a trial?’

2nd place went to David Harvey, the Scottish keeper who was more often the backup to the error-prone Gary Sprake, Harvey gained 15% of the vote, whilst Welshman Sprake just 5%.

The 3rd placed goalkeeper is also our current one, Casper Ankergren, September’s player of the month for League One is quickly becoming a fans favourite. This may, or may not be down to the fact that the man from Køge, Denmark is a bloody good keeper.

With Thomas Sorensen not playing at the moment, could Casper soon be challenging Jesper Christiansen and Stephan Andersen for the national team jersey?

The rest of the keepers really didn’t appeal to Vital Leeds United visitors, a scattering of the odd percent, with 5 goalkeepers gaining no votes at all!
