Having been rightly prompted in the Vital Leeds forums, there’s more to life than football and the League One playoff final, so this site does something to help.

The earthquake on the 12th of May hit the Sichuan Province of China, the death toll is believed to have now surpassed 68,000 as reported by Chinese media outlets. A series of aftershocks, floods and dangerously damaged buildings are causing a logistical nightmare in issuing aid to those who need it.

A passing Millwall fan, Linolchel, joining in with many of the others in having a great laugh following Leeds United’s demise in the League One playoff final at the weekend made a throw-away comment in the forums that had stuck in my mind over the past few days:

“Just seen pictures of your lot crying their eyes out because you lost out on promotion, anyone would have thought someone had died, just look at what happened in Asia thousands dead and homeless, all your lot did was to fail to win a football match”

In response, Vital Leeds United has donated £30, the price of a ticket at Elland Road, to the British Red Cross’ China Earthquake Appeal.

The Appeal Website states:

“Soon after the earthquake struck, volunteers from the Red Cross Society of China were on the ground distributing emergency relief to the survivors. But as the situation continues to unfold, more help is urgently needed to prevent further loss of life.

People need food, clean water and shelter to help them survive the immediate aftermath of the quake.

The Red Cross is working around the clock to reach those most in need.

Please give whatever you can today.”

Vital Leeds has donated, I have personally donated, why don’t you?
