Leeds went in to the game on the back of a 4 game unbeaten run, looking to maintain that by beating mid-table Plymouth.
Leeds made no changes to the starting line up which had beaten Preston last Friday. Plymouth on the other hand made 4 changes to their starting line up following their 4-0 defeat at the hands of Burnley in midweek.
The game started in fine fashion with a lot of end to end football, after just three minutes the opening goal nearly came for Plymouth when Halmosi had a shot at Leeds keeper Ankergren but he managed to save it comfortably.
For the first 30 minutes of the half there was a lot a good play being from both teams but neither could find the decisive goal, the goal that both teams so desperately wanted came on 36 minutes when the visitors took the lead. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake lifted the ball over the defence for Halmosi to latch on to, who finely brought the ball down as he beat Richardson (who picked a hip injury whilst trying to chase him) and slid it under Ankergren into the bottom corner.
Their lead did not last long though as Leeds pressed for the eqauliser. It soon came and in the 44th minute Leeds got a free kick which was launched down field by Kishishev, Cresswell managed to flick on the ball for Healy to slot into the bottom corner.
Both teams then went in 1-1 at half time.
The second half kicked again at a high pace with both teams creating many chances. Plymouth almost took the lead in the 75 minute when the ball bounced nicely on the edge of the area for Norris to volley but Ankergren was very aware as he stretched out and saved it.
In the 80th minute Micky Gray picked a hamstring injury and had to be replaced which was a big blow as he had played so well.
The winning goal came in the 87th minute when Leeds won a free kick, Alan Thompson sent the free kick in to the far post where on loan defender Michalik headed his first goal for Leeds.
The Leeds crowd erupted with joy knowing that this win had got them out of the relegation area. It meant so much to many of the fans that some of them ran to the edge of the pitch to celebrate with the players.
Leeds are now 5 games unbeaten and travel to Colchester for their match on Monday 9th April.
Gray and Richardson who both picked up injuries in this game look unlikely to feature against Colchester.
