Rod Christopher gives us the low-down as his Owls look forward to a number of events in the run up to the festive season!

During the past few weeks our group has been busy planning events for the Christmas period. On Friday 7th December, six of the lads visited GOALS Soccer Centre, situated just off Kirkstall Road. We were invited to join in on the Hawksworth Wood YMCA football activities there for an hour. It went really well too and even I pulled on my trainers to show the younguns’ how it should be done! Great relationships and new links were formed too! This was what ultimately the trip was about and we will definitely be inviting them over to our base after the Christmas period for more of the same!

On the 11th & 12th of December the youth service have asked us to run football information zones at their Multicultural Winter Youth Festival, which will be held at the Bangladeshi Centre, off of Roundhay road (6-9pm). Youth groups and staff will be visiting the event from all corners of the city. We will provide contact details, tournament entry forms and general information to young people looking to join up with or train with proper junior clubs around Leeds. We will also be hosting 2 football quizzes, where framed and personally signed LUFC photos will be won (courtesy of a certain Leeds striker partnership, namely Beckford & Kandol!) I will be there along with 2 Owls players and these events also give us our first chance to officially air our group DVD, which was only completed in November after almost 8 months of production!

On Friday 14th & 21st December we have decided to organise 7-a-side football tournaments from our Fearnville base. These competitions will be open to young people aged between 14-17 only and will take place from 6.00-8.30pm. Hopefully we will get at least 10 teams involved on each day. Teams made up from footy mad mates, youth organisations or junior clubs can now receive further information or entry forms by either email or my usual phone number. The overall champions & runners up will each receive a trophy & all for just £1 per player, per tournament!

Why not get your groups involved? You know you want to!
