Uncle Ken Opts for Radio Monopoly

Ken Bates has opted to sign an exclusive contract with his own radio company as Yorkshire Radio is announced as the sole carrier of live Leeds match commentary.

We should of course, be grateful to Mr Bates for this move. It will encourage us to no longer listen to that evil analogue radio, instead switching to the wonderful world of internet based streaming radio or even the DAB system.

I never liked listening to BBC Radio Leeds anyway. Of course this is all good for the club and Ken Bates, who is effectively paying for a service via his own company. Total investment coming into the club, likely to equal 0 so at least that nice Mr Bates won’t be out of pocket. Leeds fans however; there may be another story as they look for alternatives to paying the over-inflated ticket price hike that is set for the 2008/09 season.

I should probably report the details of the deal as Yorkshire Radio station director Ben Fry told leedsunited.com:

“This is a big step forward for Digital Radio in Yorkshire and for Yorkshire Radio. Having covered the club for the last two seasons we have now got a team and a product we feel can deliver the standard of coverage Leeds fans deserve.”
