Plenty of Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media, after LUFC Data shared an InfoGol graph showing the expected goals stat from Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Cardiff City.
We had moved into a commanding three-goal lead inside 52 minutes against Neil Harris’ Bluebirds at the weekend, after Patrick Bamford secured his brace from the penalty spot following Helder Costa’s sixth-minute opener.
At that stage of proceedings, we had fashioned a total of 15 shots to Cardiff’s six, but only managed to direct six of those on target, with seven sailing wide of Neil Etheridge’s net, per WhoScored data.
A lack of accuracy continued as the second-half rolled on, with Marcelo Bielsa’s men attempting a further ten efforts after Bamford struck his ninth league goal of the term, though just three of those strikes forced Etheridge to make save.
What let us down more on Saturday vs Cardiff?
Shooting accuracy
Game management
Cardiff, on the other hand, only attempted four shots after Bamford’s penalty, yet converted each of their three on-target efforts while seeing a 75th-minute shot blocked.
The visitor’s wayward shooting ensured they left Elland Road with an expected goals stat of just 1.23, despite scoring three and taking a point, whereas our frequent activity in the Bluebirds’ box meant we penned an xG of 4.02.
Our best chance to score that was not turned home also came inside the Cardiff six-yard area.
Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to the xG stat from Saturday’s 3-3 draw…
Outrageous mate but have to move on. Some of the stuff that we played yesterday was ridiculous

Unbelievable Jeff.

Freak result happens in football I’m afraid. Tomlin’s goal was a well taken goal not many players would of gone for that.

I think we can take solace in the fact we played really well. Big test of character now. May be good in the long run

Still scratching my head at this. Looked really good at times, I mean really good and then as if by magic for real short periods of time we looked like the team that failed in the playoffs.
Just hope it’s a blip and not a roadmap.— Paul (@Psych_Squirrel) December 15, 2019
It was freak, but also the reason we all love football. Expect the u unexpected, unless you’re Leeds like me, expect the expected!! We march on. MOT

Agreed. Just one of those days – for the most, we played brilliantly. Just a thing… Move on. #MOT
