Leeds United saw their seven match unbeaten run come to an end as they went down to a single goal defeat at Birmingham City.

Robert Snodgrass returned to the starting line up for Leeds with Mika Vayrynen dropping to the bench.

Nikola Zigic scored the only goal of the game for the home side as Leeds were unlucky to lose.

Leeds carved out the best chances but could not find a way past Birmingham goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.

Snodgrass was at the heart of Leeds best chances and it was the Scottish international that slid an effort wide after a good move,

Adam Clayton then had Myhill at full stretch with a fierce drive from the edge of the area.

Snodgrass had a number of efforts go just wide and a Birmingham defender somehow cleared one effort off the line when it looked a certain goal.

Birmingham took the lead on 36 minutes when Leeds were appealing for offside down the right hand side. Rachubka could only parry away the cross and Zigic deflected shot found the top corner.

Rachubka kept Leeds in the game on the stroke of half time when he did well to deny Zigic.

In the second half, Leeds were struggling to break down a well organised Birmingham defence and chances were few and far between for both sides.

Snodgrass again had a couple of efforts from distance that failed to trouble Myhill.

Ross McCormack then saw his stinging effort from outside the area turned over by Myhill.

Substitute Mika Vayrynen probably had Leeds best chance of the game but he got too much on his header when in a good position.

Rachubka made another good save at the other end in the dying seconds with Leeds hanging on in the game.

Snodgrass had appeals waved away for a penalty after going down in the area as it proved to be a frustrating evening for Leeds.

The unbeaten run ended soon afterwards but Leeds can take plenty of positives despite the defeat.

The central defensive partnership of Tom Lees and Darren O`Dea continues to blossom and Robert Snodgrass slowly looks like he`s returning to the form that earned him his first international call up last season.

Leeds will now prepare for another tough game when they welcome Cardiff City to Elland Road on Sunday.
