Speaking on the latest Inside Elland Road podcast, Leeds and Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay has said that the Whites looked at Jack Marriott last summer.

The Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-finals continue tonight as we look to convert our first leg lead into a Wembley spot and, as football often has a knack of doing, we’re facing Marriott’s club Derby.

The striker was on fire last season for Peterborough United and duly got a move to the Rams but has perhaps not found the same level of performance – showing only at times what he can do.

A missed opportunity, then? Or perhaps a blessing in disguise given the fee he went for?

We certainly need another number nine but he’s not been as good as Kemar Roofe, so would he have been as good for Leeds as he has been for Derby?

It’s all hypothetical, of course, but it could be the case that the Whites were wise to actually be cautious with this one – especially if we eventually sign a better forward.
