Top-flight side plot direct approach with £20m ace in bid to make Leeds ace quit United – report

Tottenham Hotspur are planning to offer Jack Clarke a lucrative five-year contract, in the hopes that their offer tempts the Leeds product into quitting United this summer, as per Football Insider.

Clarke has long been considered a Spurs target following his sublime promotion from the Whites academy into Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team, but the North London outfit have so far not been serious with their approaches after hearing that we would only sell the 18-year-old to them for £20million.

Instead, it had been claimed the Premier League high-flyers presented us with a £10million offer in May, as Mauricio Pochettino can see the potential Clarke possesses and the benefits of his homegrown status.

Football Insider now believe that Tottenham’s best offer has been upped significantly, but their knowledge of the ‘substantial’ bid is still thought to fall ‘well short’ of our valuation. Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, however, and could stretch further into the transfer window, with the United board reluctant to sell unless it is considered a necessity.

While discussions between the United and Spurs boards continue, Football Insider add that the Champions League Finalists are willing to offer Clarke a lucrative five-year contract, in the hope that it can convince the York-born winger of the benefits of a move.

Clarke’s camp have been hoping for a renewed deal at Elland Road following his promotion into the first-team, as the 5 ft 9 teenager is still thought to be on the same deal penned in November 2017 which made him one of the senior squad’s lowest-earners, but that offer has not yet been made.

Tottenham, on the other hand, are prepared to ‘massively’ increase his current wage, and tie the package together with considerable performance-related bonuses and a signing-on fee.

Clarke, who featured in 25 games across all competitions under Bielsa during the Argentine’s first season in charge, has two years left to run on his United contract.
