Leeds have decided to loan out midfielder Alan Thompson to league one rivals Hartlepool.

The midfielder is in need of first team football to boost his match fitness, so Dennis Wise feels that loaning him out (initially for a month) will benefit both he and the club, Wise told leedsunited.com: “He needs to play games which he hasn’t been doing and this will give him a situation where he can play games.

“He’s had his calf problem which is a concern and he’s come off in games but this gives him a chance to play.”

It doesn’t appear as though Wise is looking at anything more than merely a loan period though.

He does however hope that this loan will see him do Leeds a favour when he comes up against Leeds’ promotion rivals when turning out for Hartlepool, he added: “I think it’s better for us because the other part of Thommo going on loan to Hartlepool is that he will play against teams who are near us in the league.

“I’m hoping he does really well and upsets all the teams and comes back fit.”
