With Luke Ayling missing our next game against Blackburn Rovers after the international break, it would seem as though Gaetano Berardi has a chance to feature.

The Swiss defender started this season in the side at centre-half and seemed to do well alongside Liam Cooper but injury coincided with Pontus Jansson’s return.

Indeed, Jansson and Cooper now look the established centre-half pairing once again and Berardi will have been waiting for an opening to get back into the team.

Against Rovers, he now potentially has one.

More typically a full-back anyway, this opportunity looks gift-wrapped for Berardi after Ayling’s sending off against Brentford.

Before then, too, Ayling has struggled in recent games and so if Berardi can step up he’ll show Bielsa that he belongs in the side.

Competition for places is what you need to get promoted from the Championship and El Loco will be eager to see Gaetano demonstrate that.
