Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood will not overstretch the club’s resources to keep striker Thierry Henry.

Frenchman Henry wants to stay at Highbury, despite interest from Barcelona.

But Hill-Wood admits there will be a limit to what Arsenal can offer the 28-year-old in the way of a new contract.

‘We try to keep the wages at a level we can afford – it is not rocket science,’ Hill-Wood told the Daily Star.

‘If you don’t, you get into trouble like Leeds did a few years ago, so there is a ceiling.

‘We have limits but hopefully we can come to the right agreement, although I don’t know that for certain.’
