“They have got their heads together” – Ex-Leeds star hails latest move from EFL

|

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has heaped praise on the EFL and Sky after the Whites learned how much they will have to pay back regarding broadcasting rights.

The Telegraph revealed that an agreement has made by the two organisations that will £10m rebated by the Football League club as a result of the temporary suspension of the football season.

The figure in question is only a quarter of the £42m fee that was initially feared, which was great news for the football club. The money will be equally shared across all clubs from the Championship to League Two and the payments will be taken over the next three years.

Leeds are currently top of the Championship and have the glorious opportunity in their grasp of making their long-awaited return to the Premier League for the first time since our relegation in 2004.

Speaking to Football Insider,

Will Leeds United be playing in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

“There has to be give and take on all sides. It is incredibly important for this to work.

“A lot of games will be free to air for season ticket holders so that is a huge bonus for fans – at least they still get the option to watch their games for no extra cost.

“They have got their heads together and it has been a sensible conclusion for everybody involved with the EFL.”

The Football League has a deal in place with Sky Sports, which was sealed in 2018 worth £595m over the course of the following five seasons.

Both companies could have easily asked for that money back instantly, jeopardising club’s futures and their plans going forward.

Mills is spot on. This will benefit us greatly if we do get promoted this season, with more of a healthy transfer budget to cement our place in the top flight once more.
