With the news that on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman had suffered a broken tibia in the Under 23 game between Leeds United and Birmingham City on Friday afternoon, with the likelihood that the 25-year-old will now be out of action for most, if not all, of the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign, thoughts quickly turned to backup options.

Talk on emergency goalkeeping cover is mixed as plenty think Will Huffer ticks the boxes from the EFL’s point of view for the loan angle to not come into play, but undoubtedly come January we will be looking at options to provide proper backup and competition for Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Birmingham City’s experienced goalkeeper David Stockdale was a quick suggestion from a number of fans on social media given the reported interest we had in bringing him in during the summer window and speculation suggesting we were interested prior to that when he left Brighton and Hove Albion.

He’s certainly as good a shout as any for the rest of the season given the names that are now doing the rounds.
