With Leeds United falling at the Championship Play-Off Semi-Final hurdle in midweek as Derby County took an aggregate victory to book their place in the Wembley Final plenty of fans are understandably feeling sorry for themselves given how close we ran promotion.
It’s been a great season and ultimately a lack of better strengthening in the January transfer window, allied to a horrible injury curse at the club this year, well, it simply caught up with us in the final weeks of the campaign and despite still dominating games and created plenty of chances, our Achilles heel all year long has been in converting them.
With it being expected that manager Marcelo Bielsa will remain for next season, these fans on social media at least see this year as having laid a foundation for more comfortable success next season and the likes of Jamie Shackleton certainly figure as a reason behind their optimism.
Going to take a while to get over this but right now still feel so proud of my football club. A couple of players and we can far outdo this season. Shackleton immense again! Build next seasons team around him and Phillips! #lufc

I’m not sure the phrase “Doing a Leeds!” Quite does that justice. Yet another staggering implosion.
If there is 1 positive, it is that this whole project shouldn’t need tearing up and starting again from scratch. Shackleton’s performance highlights what out U23 are about #lufc
