The English Football League, or EFL as they prefer to be known, have now confirmed the Team of the Week acknowledgement for the standout players in last weekend’s final round of fixtures before everyone across the country pretends to get really upset when England don’t quite perform how they expected.

Leeds United, of course, battled from behind to take a 1-1 draw with Brentford at Elland Road and the game certainly had a number of contentious issues to attract the headlines – whether that be the penalty award, the performance of the referee overall, ridiculous coin incidents or a clear, but soft, headbutt that the Football Association decided wasn’t worthy of punishment.

It’s not for me to say that the EFL Team of the Week choices were designed to spark more headlines giving the lull in real news at this moment in time, but it’s not often you’ll see Leeds and Barnsley fans in agreement – but they were, the selection was pants.

They picked a back three but no Pontus Jansson – the assumption being his nasty, but everyday word, in the post-game interview.

If anyone’s bothered, Barnsley’s gripe was Brad Potts who scored a brace on the day.
