“There’s More In Him” – Pundit Continues To Be Frustrated By Leeds Star & Few Fans Will Disagree With His Words

|

Former Leeds United player and BBC pundit Noel Whelan has again been discussing the relative form of summer signing Helder Costa and his performance levels for the side so far in the 2019/20 Championship campaign.

Whelan has been a regular critic of the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man given the reported £15million loan to buy deal we did to bring the 25-year-old into Elland Road, and it’s understandable as to why, as most fans would agree we simply haven’t seen his best form yet.

We know the Portuguese player can tear up this division and we’ve certainly seen glimpses of that in matches, but despite the role he’s asked to play by manager Marcelo Bielsa, there is another gear in him (if not two) and when we see that consistency, his goal and assist tally should rocket.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds recently, Whelan knew he had much more to offer us, and he was hopeful he’d soon be living up to his price tag as ultimately that’s all anyone wants.

“I’ve always said he’s had two decent games out of six. This is now seven, two and a half, I’m going to give him. There’s more in him. Right now we keep talking about this £15m tag that’s on him. I’m probably seeing about £4m. That’s what I’m seeing right now. It’s in glimpses. He is doing very much what Jack Harrison did last year. You’re seeing him for maybe 35 minutes out of 90, if that, at the minute. What we do see is very good, but there needs to be more consistency and more involvement throughout the 90. A man of his quality and what we know he can do – we’re not seeing it just yet. That is my issue.”
