“The Reason For What Happened” – Bielsa Frustrated As Leeds Suffer Defeat

|

Leeds United travelled to The Valley on Saturday as we looked to get back to winning ways against Charlton Athletic after the disappointing draw with Derby County last weekend.

Despite typically dominating the game as we do under our new gaffer now, the same old problems were evident in our attacking play and with Charlton taking the lead just after the half hour mark, our inability to test the goalkeeper on enough occasions and convert our chances, saw us slip to our first away defeat of the campaign and relinquish top spot to West Bromwich Albion.

Again, it was another defeat that really should’ve been a victory – but it’s long been our problem.

Speaking to the BBC following the full time whistle, manager Marcelo Bielsa said of our performance on the day.

“The difference between the two sides was big. We didn’t impose our superiority and that was the reason for what happened. They had one shot and scored one goal. We had possession and controlled the game. Our players were better than their players. We didn’t underestimate our opponents but we had more resources on the pitch.”
