The Leeds United Fixture Debacle

With Leeds United having 4 out of the first 5 away fixtures having had alterations to kick-off times for safety, Gary McAllister is backing the United faithful.

Only Leeds` trip to Swindon Town will remain at the normal Saturday kick-off time of 3pm, with the previous roat trips all kicking off at or around lunchtime, at the request of the police and clubs, still afraid of any trouble that may be caused by a Leeds United fan base with a distant past reputation, still preceding, and following them as they travel around the country.

Ironically, Leeds’ away trip to Millwall, remains a 3pm kick-off on a Saturday afternoon.

Gary Mac is backing the fans, as everyone tries to fathom out just why Leeds supporters have to suffer as he told Leedsunited.com:

“When you see the changes you instantly think how awkward it is for our fans to travel across the country,’ said the boss.<
BR>”As players you can deal with it. All our organisation is done and travel arrangements are sorted. But people have to work and there’s no consideration to the travelling Leeds fans with these kicks offs.

“I’ve never sensed anything from the Leeds crowd other than a group of fans who go to support their team. And if anything they boosted the whole division last season.

He added what I think to be the most important part of this whole sorry saga:

“There’s not many chairmen don’t want Leeds fans because they fill their ground every time.”

Many, read: any. Leeds United are a big money spinner, especially for the minnow clubs that have somehow managed to get into League One. If we offered to take our fans away and play matches behind closed doors for “safety” I very much doubt any club in this League would actually accept that. United have done more for League One, than League One will ever do for Leeds United.
