Having finally concluded the uncertainty that surrounded their managerial situation, Leeds United are expected to invest heavily in their squad in an attempt to augment their chances of success. Marcelo Bielsa failed to rule out the Whites’ aspirations of promotion to the Premier League, and they must be prepared to establish a squad that will be able to compete at the top of the Championship.

Leeds United journalist Phil Hay, as cited by This is Futbol, has provided an update on Leeds United’s transfer targets, and there are plenty of names on the list that will excite Leeds supporters while addressing the issues that the Whites faced last season.

Over the course of 46 league games, Leeds conceded 64 goals, and they concluded the season with a negative goal difference. As was illustrated by Wolves and Cardiff City, the key to a successful promotion campaign is a solid defence and a clinical attack.  The potential arrival of Kyle Bartley would significantly enhance the calibre of the Leeds defence, while the quality of Angus Gunn or the experience of David Stockdale would help to negate their goalkeeping deficiencies.

In addition to their poor defensive record, Leeds failed to find the back of the net on a frequent basis last season, averaging just over a goal scored per game. Without question, the Whites need to significantly improve the quality of their attack to compete in the division.

The potential arrival of either Matej Vydra or Abel Hernandez would be of tremendous benefit to Leeds as they hope to reinforce their promotion aspirations. The importance of having a regular scorer cannot be stressed sufficiently, as was illustrated by Vydra last season as he scored 21 goals for Derby who finished 6th in the Championship.

While Leeds have considerable work to finalise deals for their targets, the early signs are irrefutably bright.
