Leeds United fans were going mental on social media yesterday as news filtered through that Brentford’s Sergi Canos had escaped punishment for an incident where he clearly appeared to headbutt the back of Ezgjan Alioski’s noggin.

During the 1-1 draw at Elland Road last Saturday, Alioski went into the dugout to retrieve a ball and whilst there were some small handbags with one of the coaching staff, 21-year-old Canos was clearly caught on camera giving him a little bump.

Now fair’s fair, as the above video shows there was little to no strength in it and as you watch a few times, he doesn’t really have his eyes on Alioski, but when he sees or anticipates contact there is a movement and he was on the bench at the point, so why he was walking around is anyone’s guess. Credit to our 26-year-old for not overplaying his own reaction.

Had the referee seen it, it was at least a yellow card offence but you’ll see reds given for less in 2018/19. And yes, I realise in saying that I’m being extremely forgiving.

Even if you’re being ultra kind, the fact the three former match day officials couldn’t determine if it was a disciplinary offence is amateurish in the extreme. They should’ve at least been able to agree a verbal warning about future conduct at the very least.

It’s just another talking point from a game containing many, but you can guarantee we’ll take some punishment from the other incidents.
