Leeds United fans were going mental on social media yesterday as news filtered through that Brentford’s Sergi Canos had escaped punishment for an incident where he clearly appeared to headbutt the back of Ezgjan Alioski’s noggin.

During the 1-1 draw at Elland Road last Saturday, Alioski went into the dugout to retrieve a ball and whilst there were some small handbags with one of the coaching staff, 21-year-old Canos was clearly caught on camera giving him a little bump.

Now fair’s fair, as the above video shows there was little to no strength in it and as you watch a few times, he doesn’t really have his eyes on Alioski, but when he sees or anticipates contact there is a movement and he was on the bench at the point, so why he was walking around is anyone’s guess. Credit to our 26-year-old for not overplaying his own reaction.

Had the referee seen it, it was at least a yellow card offence but you’ll see reds given for less in 2018/19. And yes, I realise in saying that I’m being extremely forgiving.

Even if you’re being ultra kind, the fact the three former match day officials couldn’t determine if it was a disciplinary offence is amateurish in the extreme. They should’ve at least been able to agree a verbal warning about future conduct at the very least.

It’s just another talking point from a game containing many, but you can guarantee we’ll take some punishment from the other incidents.

  • compared to O,kanes “head but” last season for which HE GOT A THREE MATCH BAN this was ABH. Shame on the the panel, shame on the match officials. We all know that there is the occasional bad apple in most organisations
Unfortunately the EFL appears to have nothing but bad apples in it, corruption, is a strong word, but I like thousands of others, have lost faith in the integrity of these people. Two many bad decisions, to be coincidence.

  • i am a bees fan and i was surprised at sergi’s reaction…and just as surprised that the FA have ignored it….he shouldnt have got involved in what at first was a juvenile prank by the coaching staff..nothing more sinister than that…i loved Pontus Janssen’s speech at the final as he said exactly what he needed to say to that intrusive idiot reporter…what was he supposed to say ..what a lovely game between two great sides so lets kick on from here>>??..refreshing to hear the truth be told and sincerely hope the FA take no further action….i saw the match on TV and i have my own opinions on the dive..so will keep it to myelf as only Ollie Watkins knows what was going through his mind…If you sign him in the January window maybe you can ask him then…anyway..good luck to both teams for the rest of the season and lets hope we meet in the premiership next season ..oh and by the way Neal Maupay says thanks for the coins…he doesn’t get paid that much at Brentford these days
