“That is a snip”: Former Leeds United man backs club to seal £8m deal for 23-y/o

Leeds United have enjoyed a brilliant season so far, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side currently top of the Championship.

Whilst there are many reasons for that, the form of Jack Harrison has been key. The winger joined for a second season-long loan back in July and has been a crucial figure in the Whites XI, not missing a game and weighing in with five goals and seven assists from out wide.

Therefore, with parent club Manchester City boasting plenty of quality options out wide, a permanent move to Elland Road is on the cards and ESPN revealed earlier this month that Leeds are expected to pay the £8m fee that was included as part of the initial deal. That would complete remarkable turnaround for Harrison, who underwhelmed in his first season and admitted he chose to delete his Twitter account after abuse from the support for that period.

Speaking to Football Insider, former player Noel Whelan gave his view on how the wide man took the criticism and explained how he would represent a bargain give the form he has shown in the current campaign.

These days players are a little more sensitive to this. That is the way the game has gone, unfortunately. It would be water off a duck’s back to me.

It takes a bit of time to settle in and now look at him – a very good player. If we get him for £8million that is a snip because he will be a cracking player.”

In a recent interview, the 23-year-old suggested he was open to moving to Yorkshire on a long-term basis, although he made it clear he wants to ‘play at the highest level‘. So, any potential deal could depend on Bielsa’s side getting over the line in their quest to win promotion. They currently hold a seven-point lead over third-placed Fulham, with just nine games left to play.
