“That Bench Should Be Illegal” – These Leeds Fans Had Early Optimism For Wigan Clash

|

Leeds United were looking to get back to winning ways in Saturday’s Championship clash with Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium, but fans were certainly optimistic ahead of the tie when we saw the teamsheets.

Although manager Marcelo Bielsa had already revealed that the starting lineup would be the same as the last league clash, with changes made for our EFL Cup victory over Salford City, it seems plenty of fans were delighted with the strength of the bench chosen by our Argentine gaffer, as although young talent Jack Clarke missed out for this one, we did see Eddie Nketiah make an appearance.

With plenty of fans talking about squad depth given the summer transfers out of the club, when it comes to outfield potential, Ezgjan Alioski, Nketiah, Helder Costa, Gaetano Berardi, Mats Bogusz and Jamie Shackleton certainly provide options across the pitch, so all that was left to see was how it benefited us in our search for all three points.

With Patrick Bamford getting the job done with a brace just after the opening hour, we only saw Helder Costa and Jamie Shackleton used, but the game was already ours but there will be those who felt Eddie Nketiah or Mats Bogusz could have been given another runout, but the day was about three points and we took the win.
