Late on Saturday evening, Leeds United officially confirmed the permanent transfer of Marcus Antonsson.

The 27-year-old striker moved to Elland Road from Kalmar back in the summer of 2016 for a reported £2million and the Swedish player went on to make only eleven starting appearances for the club, with an additional eleven showings from the bench. In that time he returned three goals.

It certainly wasn’t what Leeds fans expected given that during his time at his former club in the Swedish Allsvenskan, he scored 22 times in 40 matches (three substitute showings). Prior to Kalmer he was with Halmstads and scored ten goals in 17 appearances and 33 substitute showings.

The player spent the 2017/18 campaign out on loan with Blackburn Rovers where he did fair better in England. 24 starts and ten substitute showings across the season saw him return eight goals.

Leeds have cut their losses though and he returns home for an undisclosed fee and he heads to Malmo.

Reacting to the news, plenty of fans were happy to wish him well believing he was never given a proper chance at the club, but others weren’t sorry to see the back of him. It didn’t take long for some to start commenting about another player out given the lack of players in.
