‘Terrible, but he knows it’ – Some Leeds fans reply to fan’s damning assessment of Whites ace

Some Leeds supporters have been replying to one fan on Reddit, after u/1800HammerTime issued a damning assessment of Patrick Bamford following the striker’s underwhelming display against Western Sydney Wanderers.

The 25-year-old striker squandered a number of chances during our pre-season tour fixture with the A-League side, having also failed to capitalise on a great opportunity against Manchester United earlier in the week.

U/1800HammerTime, though, took particular note of another aspect of the Grantham-born attacker’s game that needs to be worked on for the former Middlesbrough man to lead Leeds back into the top-flight, his work off the ball.

The supporter, whose opinion has been generating a fair amount of responses, suggested Bamford appeared to be trying extremely hard to make an impact against Western Sydney Wanderers, but would often fail to collect possession or be chosen to receive it by his teammates.

“He always looks like he is trying soooo hard, but always just fails to get to the ball, or just gets out-jumped for the header, or makes the run but just doesn’t get the ball, or just, just, just, etc.,” they wrote.

“It [has] got to the stage where [a] Leeds player with [the] ball looks up, sees Bamford, looks for another option, looks back at Bamford, looks again for another option, then chooses the anything but Bamford option.”

Another part of the 25-year-old’s game that caught their eye was how Bamford would drift from his starting position to occupy a pocket of space, but in doing so was actually taking himself out of the game or moved too late.

“It’s a classic behaviour [trait] of someone who is terrified of getting the ball, and has no confidence,” they added.

“I’d love him to get some confidence, but Bamford cannot currently take us to the Premier League. Perhaps he needs loaning out to a lower league so he can bang some goals in.

“I’m starting to wonder if Helder Costa can play [at] striker.”

Here’s how these United supporters replied to u/1800HammerTime’s take on Bamford’s performance against Western Sydney Wanderers…
