No clearance for Joel Griffiths, so Leeds have decided to report Swiss club Neuchatel Xamax to FIFA.

The Australian midfielder was expected to make his debut on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday, but his club stalled with the paperwork.

But having still not received clearance from his previous club and no good explanation as to why, the 26-year-old is in limbo.

He signed an 18-month contract last week and the fact he is married to an Englishwoman means he does not require a work permit.

Chief executive officer Shaun Harvey: ‘Leeds United Football Club have officially complained to FIFA after Swiss club Neuchatel Xamax failed to issue international clearance for Joel Griffiths.

‘The club completed the transfer seven days ago and no justifiable reason has been provided by the Swiss club for not issuing the appropriate consent.

‘The FA raised the matter with their Swiss counterparts and are fully supportive of our position. We hope the matter will be resolved with the minimum of delay.’
