Swans Trophy Delay Thanks to Leeds

Poor old Swansea, you’d have hoped after winning the Football League One, that the next home match for your club you would receive the winners trophy.

Not Swans, if Leeds United are still hunting for their unjustly removed 15 points back!

Following legal advice (and announcing the trophy presentation to be held at Swansea’s next home match against Leyton Orient on Saturday) it appears that awarding a league trophy before the Leeds-initiated arbitration challenge to their points penalty, would perhaps be a slightly daft idea.

Should the arbitration hearing decide that all 15 points should be returned to Leeds United, Swansea, champions elect, would be just 1 point ahead of the Yorkshire club with 2 games to play thus removing their winner’s status.

A statement from the Football League read:

”Following legal advice, the Football League can confirm that it will not present the League One trophy to Swansea City at their match with Leyton Orient on Saturday due to the ongoing arbitration hearing involving Leeds United.

“The Panel in the hearing have committed to provide a verdict on or before May 1st and the League has been advised not to engage in any actions which might be misconstrued or viewed as pre-empting the arbitration process in any way.”

Someone, somewhere, needs to somewhat, make their minds up else there is a big risk that the Football League may become an even bigger joke than this season has already suggested.
