Leeds United fans who slightly more closely following the development of Carlos Corberan’s Under 23 side last season may well have backed on seeing young talent Hugo Diaz a little bit more in the Championship campaign of 2019/20.
The 22-year-old defender had only made one senior appearance for the first team following his arrival two years ago, but for many fans following our successful Under 23 action last year, he was certainly one of the standout performers and whilst few expected him to walk into the starting line up under manager Marcelo Bielsa, I can’t have been alone in thinking he would take up a more natural bench spot as an option next year.
On Thursday afternoon he took to social media to send a very passionate message as he announced his departure, but for me, he goes out with his head high after last season’s successes.
Reacting to the news on social media, plenty of fans were shocked at the decision as although his contract was up, I can’t have been alone in expecting an extension. Best of luck to the young lad.
Feel bad about that Barney tbh. Real shame it didn’t work out.
