Samuel Saiz made a dream debut for Leeds United as he scored a hat-trick in the 4-1 win against Port Vale in the Carabao Cup.

Caleb Ekuban also scored his first Leeds goal as they cruised into the second round of the competition.

Leeds made nine changes from the side that beat Bolton Wanderers on Sunday.

Saiz gave Leeds the lead on 12 minutes when he controlled the ball before smashing home off the inside of the post after Stuart Dallas had seen his cross come out off the post.

Port Vale equalised on 36 minutes when former Leeds midfielder Michael Tonge ghosted in behind a static Leeds defence and he slotted the ball past Felix Wiedwald.

Leeds started the second half brightly with Ekuban, Mateusz Klich, Saiz and Conor Shaughnessy all testing the Port Vale goalkeeper.

Saiz scored his second of the game on the hour when he took a Ronaldo Vieira pass in his stride and he knocked the ball past the Port Vale goalkeeper before slotting the ball home.

His hat-trick was completed two minutes later when he smashed the ball into the roof of the net after a clever ball from Ekuban.

Ekuban scored the fourth inside the final ten minutes when he slotted into the bottom corner after a run from Ezgjan Alioski from his own half.

Port Vale`s night was made worse in the closing minutes when Gavin Gunning was shown his second yellow card and a red card after taking exception to Alioski showboating.

Liam Bridcutt fired wide for Leeds in injury time has Leeds looked for a fifth goal but it was job done for the whites in the first round.
