Tottenham Hotspur would prefer Atletico Madrid stopper, Jan Oblak as the long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Recent reports stated that the London club had earmarked Leeds United stopper Illan Meslier as the man to replace Hugo Lloris after a series of impressive performances for The Whites and the France U21 National team. The article, posted by LeedsLive said ‘Tottenham Hotspur are looking for a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is among their preferred targets.’

‘The Spurs captain, who has made 425 appearances across his decade in England, is expected to leave when his contract expires in 2024. Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier has also been earmarked as a potential successor for his 35-year-old French compatriot, but the suggestion is the young Frenchman is not near the top of Spurs’ shopping list.’

The news will come as a great relief to Leeds fans as Illan Meslier has been fantastic for the club since he arrived from Lorient in 2019, initially on loan, until he made the move permanent in 2020 for a fee of around £5.5m. He fast became a fan favourite with his outstanding shot-stopping ability, and The Whites would hope to retain his services for the long-term. He still has aspects to his game that need to improve, but he certainly has the potential to be a world-class stopper.

Leeds will hope the speculation goes away as soon as possible to keep Meslier and his team focused as they go into a period of winnable, but crucial games before the World Cup kicks off at the end of November.
