Gary Speed played his 500th league appearance for Bolton this weekend in a 4-0 thrashing of West Ham at the Reebok Staduim.

The former Leeds United midfielder has said his longevity in the game was down to Gordon Strachan got him on a diet of seaweed cakes and bananas.

Speed and Strachan were part of the magnificent midfield four of Leeds united title winning season of 1992 when the mighty Leeds beat Manchester United to the old first division title.
Other midfielder were David Batty and Gary McAllister who also enjoyed long spells in the game.
