With Marcelo Bielsa and the Leeds United first-team squad making the trip to Roots Hall to face League One Southend United at the weekend, securing only a 1-1 draw with Luke Ayling finding the net for the second time this pre-season left plenty of fans with their hands on their heads given the overall performance and the number of players who were below par.

There was one bright spark on the day though, former West Bromwich Albion striker Tyler Roberts.

Having joined us back in the January window for a reported £2.5million, injury hit and he spent the second half of the season sitting on the sidelines as he recovered. The 19-year-old is yet to make his competitive bow for the side, but taking to the pitch against Southend, plenty were impressed with his efforts and are expecting big things from him this coming season.

Nobody should be getting too carried away yet but he certainly did himself no harm in his 30 minute run out.
