‘Something special,’ So composed’ – These Leeds fans gush over 17y/o’s highlight reel

Mateusz Bogusz was a sensation for our Under 23s following his transfer from Ruch Chorzow to Leeds United in the winter, but the Poland youth international is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Whites first-team.

How much longer we can say that is anyone’s guess now, though, after he put on a display in our pre-season encounter with Western Sydney Wanderers at the weekend that some United supporters have been gushing over since.

Ruda Slaska-born Bogusz started the clash in the centre of Marcelo Bielsa’s midfield and made the opening forty-five his own, with several runs toward the opposition’s box.

His superb positioning and great reading of the game for someone just 17-years-old gifted the Poland U20 international a pocket of space on the edge of the Wanderers’ box at the close of the ninth minute, before he lashed the ball into the top corner of the net with a calm and controlled strike.

Bogusz also displayed a great passing range and demonstrated moments of gifted technique to connect with his Whites teammates, as he floated the ball around the field to keep the hosts on the back foot.

The second half was not as profitable for Bogusz, however, as he began to fade and was eventually hauled off having given Bielsa and the fans plenty of food for thought.

United now have one pre-season fixture to go – coming against Serie A side Cagliari Calcio on Saturday – before the Championship kicks-off on the road to Bristol City, and fans are anticipating this is by far the last the first-team has seen of Bogusz.

Here’s what has been said on Reddit after one user shared Bogusz’s highlights from the Western Sydney Wanderers game…
