Silence On Smith Transfer

It is all quiet on the transfer front as regards Tommy Smith, but could it be ‘Silence Is Golden’?

Derby boss Phil Brown is keeping tight-lipped over whether Rams midfielder Tommy Smith is the subject of transfer discussions with Leeds manager Kevin Blackwell.

Brown has already confirmed Blackwell has made enquiries about one of his stars as well as revealing his own interest in two Leeds players, one of which is believed to be Stephen Crainey.

But the Rams head coach has refused to confirm or deny the names involved, although he accepts Smith’s recent form would inevitably attract interest from elsewhere.

Brown: ‘Everybody’s drawing their own conclusions over who we are chasing but from my point of view it’s important to keep these things in-house.

‘Players who are doing well command interest and Tommy Smith is one of those players who are doing well for Derby, so it’s only natural he’s being linked with a move.’

Blackwell: ‘There are no talks taking place. I’m not prepared to talk about what is purely press speculation.’
