“Shows Real Ambition” – Leeds Stars Representative Opens Up About New Deal After A Difficult Summer

|

With Leeds United confirming that key player Kalvin Phillips had penned his new long term contract this week at Elland Road, the reaction from the fans was understandably positive.

For a long time over the summer, it seemed like it was only a matter of when, rather than if, the 23-year-old would depart and most likely to Play-Off promotion winners Aston Villa, but Phillips himself didn’t seem to be driving a move, which did give plenty hope that he would remain.

Phillips is represented by former player, Kevin Sharp, and he was recently interviewed by club media discussing the new contract and what he felt it meant for his client, and the club. Sharp was obviously very positive about the deal as he spoke to LUTV and he was adamant that it was a show of ‘real ambition’ from the Board when it came to hopefully putting last years disappointment behind us and achieving promotion ourselves this season.

“It’s a big statement, holding onto someone like Kalvin, who for me can handle the next step. It shows real ambition from Andrea, Victor and Angus and the club itself. I’m sure the fans will be delighted with Kalvin staying at the club a further five years. From day one, Kalvin wanted to stay at the club and his main ambition is to get to the Premier League with Leeds.”

Given the transfer fees being bandied around over the summer, it’s certainly a statement, now we just have to hope it pays off.
