‘Shame’, ‘had a good spell’: These Leeds fans get into interesting debate over previous players

|

There’s been a lot of speculation about the goalkeeping situation at Elland Road this summer.

They’ve been linked to a number of goalkeepers this summer including; Mark Travers, Karl Darlow and for some bizarre reason Gianluigi Buffon. There have also been discussions about who amongst the current ranks could be departing this summer. Bailey Peacock-Farrell has been hinted at possibly moving to Burnley and Kiko Casilla has also been mentioned with a possible move away from Elland Road.

Perhaps as a result of this speculation, or perhaps just boredom seeing as there isn’t much movement going on at Leeds at the moment, Leeds fans got into a little debate regarding the goalkeepers of the past.

It was all started by LeedsUtdRyan on Twitter and it got some interesting responses, although it seemed to boil down to one of three names for most people.

Obviously Nigel Martyn was going to get a mention. As part of the team that went down in Leeds folklore for reaching back to back European semi-finals, there was always going to be a little bit of the nostalgia factor in there.

Rob Green was another. Whilst he only had one season at Elland Road, he certainly made it a memorable one, keeping 15 clean sheets that year as Leeds finished outside the playoff places.

Then there was Kasper Schmeichel. Like Green he only spent one season at Elland Road, but according to him, he didn’t get on with a lot of the fans there, possibly due to his father’s association with fierce rivals Manchester United.

Who do you think was the last decent keeper that Leeds had?
