It was reported last week that Paul Heckingbottom had already made Barnsley forward Oli McBurnie his top summer transfer target.

Whether that is true or not, the Scottish striker is certainly full of praise for our manager. The 21 year old moved to the Tykes on loan in January from Swansea City, and in an interview with Sky Sports, he revealed Hecky`s influence was key:

‘I really got on well with him and he really rated me as a player. To be fair, Hecky rang me the day after he took the job at Leeds, just to explain what his thinking was.’

‘I would never hold that against him. I understand what football is like. It’s a short career and he has his own family and his own reasons for doing that.’

Despite only playing a handful of games under him before he left to become our manager, it looks as though the boss left quite an impression on the player. The Swans forward was been in excellent form since his loan move to the Championship with five goals in seven games.

His displays have been rewarded by a call up to new Scotland manager Alex McLeish`s first squad for the friendlies against Costa Rica and Hungary at the end of the month.

Despite having Scottish ancestry, McBurnie was actually born in Leeds, and a return to his birthplace is something that is a possibility in the summer. Should we sign the lad? Let me know in the poll!
