Nicolò Schira: Leeds preparing €25M bid for midfielder

|

According to well-regarded sports journalist, Nicolò Schira via his Twitter account, Leeds United are preparing a bid of €25m for World Cup Midfielder, Azzedine Ounahi.

Leeds are hoping to make their third signing of the January transfer window after securing deals for Max Wober and Georginio Rutter, with Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi. The 22-year-old, currently playing in the French Ligue 1 with Angers, has caught the eye of clubs around Europe. Leeds owner, Andrea Radrizzani was reported to be a big admirer of the combative midfielder, so much so, he exchanged text messages with his sporting director, Victor Orta about the World Cup star. It now appears a deal has been drawn up for the midfielder, who would be seen as a massive upgrade on club legend, Mateusz Klich who recently departed to play for DC United in the MLS.

The Whites are low on numbers in the middle after the departure of Klich and with Adam Forshaw’s future in doubt that only leaves Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, Sam Greenwood and Darko Gyabi in the centre of the pitch. Although the midfield looks capable enough, there would be big issues if either of those were to pick up injuries. Outlining how thin in that area, Marsch’s squad is.

Azzedine Ounahi would be a superb signing for Leeds. He is a box-to-box midfielder with a great engine, loves a tackle and can chip in with goals, which is something the club has lacked for a while now. If the Whites could get this deal over the line, it would show a real signal of intent to the rest of the Premier League.

All that would be left, would be a solid defender and I would argue most Leeds fans would be ecstatic with this January window. A window that for the most part, has generally been ignored in the past.
