Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts who went on loan to Queens Park Rangers for the season has spoken of the switch as per LeedsLive.

It was a mutual decision between himself and Jesse Marsch as the forward sought regular game time, and it became apparent he wasn’t guaranteed minutes at Elland Road this campaign. Former coach Marcelo Bielsa handed Roberts a new contract before he was relieved of his duties last season with 12 games to go and the forward struggled to make himself a part of Marsch’s plans and then a serious hamstring injury meant he was forced the miss the remaining games.

The Welsh International has now spoken about the switch and the reasons behind it. In a recent interview, he said “I had been injured as soon as the new manager came in so he hadn’t really seen me play. Throughout the summer, with the way we ended last season, they [Leeds] were always going to get in new players and give the manager his own transfer window.”

“I was just one of the fringe players. I wasn’t pushed out. It was a mutual agreement to go and get my games and prove to people I can stay fit and score goals. That is obviously a big thing for any player in the summer transfer window – you have to be out there playing or you are going to be at risk of missing World Cup selection.”

Roberts netted his first league goal of the season on Saturday as Michael Beale’s side earned an impressive 2-1 win at Bristol City. It remains to be seen whether the forward has a future at Leeds United, but if he keeps himself fit and uses the time to improve, he may still be part of Jesse Marsch’s plans for next season.
