Ex-Leeds United keeper Paul Robinson believes he has what it takes to reclaim the England goalkeeper jersey from another former white.

Robinson has 41 caps for England, but was dropped shortly before England’s Euro 2008 qualifying exit at the hands of Croatia, with Scott Carson, another Leeds youth product replacing him. The Liverpool keeper, on loan at Aston Villa became one of a long line of blunder-producing England keepers, allowing Niko Kranjcar’s weak shot to bounce past him for the opening goal.

With Robinson now performing well again for Spurs, he has turned his attention to reclaiming the England starting spot that he held for so long.

“Of course it hurt at the time being left out by England, but sometimes you look at the game and become a better player when you’re not playing,” Robinson told skysports.com.

‘When you get criticised, it is not nice but I feel in the last few weeks I’ve been getting back to my best. I’m feeling confident now.

‘With the new England manager everyone starts with a clean slate but there are only a couple of friendly games during the rest of this season so I’m really looking to maintain my form for Tottenham.’
