Yesterday evening Leeds United confirmed that young duo Conor Shaughnessy and Lewie Coyle would spend the rest of the 2018/19 campaign away from the club on loan spells.

Republic of Ireland Under 21 international Shaughnessy has made the move to Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian until the end of the current season and it should give the 22-year-old a great opportunity to significantly improve his game time this year as he’s only made one appearance for manager Marcelo Bielsa and that came back at the end of August.

23-year-old Coyle spent the first half of the year out with Fleetwood Town and he’s already made 29 appearances for them, and with his spell being extended until the end of the season he will be hoping that game minutes come at the same rate.

It’s the right decision for Leeds as despite our injury situation, it serves us and the pair far better to have them out developing with game time and a decision can be taken later on whether or not they are serious first XI contenders or we simply cash in and give ourselves greater wriggle room in future transfer windows as we look to strengthen further.
