‘Ridiculous’, ‘Gutting’ – Many Leeds fans react to expected scenario vs Wigan

We are just hours away from potentially taking one of our final steps toward securing Premier League football, as a win against Wigan while Sheffield United slip up at the hands of Nottingham Forest would open the top-flight door to us.

The Latics, however, are not expected to be followed strongly when they arrive at Elland Road on Friday afternoon, and the expected number of supporters making the short trip to West Yorkshire has been earning a fair reaction on Twitter.

User Stuart Grant has noted that, at the time of his tweet, Wigan had only managed to sell 600 tickets from their over 2,000-strong allocation amid their relegation fears.

Sadly, it’s hardly out of character for Wigan fans to not turn up to their games, either, as TransferMarkt statistics show the Latics have only attracted an average crowd of 12,117 at the DW Stadium since their promotion from League One – that’s less than half of their theoretical capacity.

We, meanwhile, boast the second highest average attendance with 33,391, and are expecting the stands to be packed to the rafters for Wigan’s visit, as the game is chalked down as sold out.

Had the Whites listed the tickets Wigan were unable to sell, there is no doubt they would have flown off the shelves, metaphorically speaking, as it could be the last chance some fans get to see Marcelo Bielsa’s squad play at Elland Road this season, as Aston Villa – on Saturday 28 – is also sold out.
