With most of the recent transfer speculation about Leeds United focusing on the futures of Jack Clarke and Kalvin Phillips, we are now being linked with a potential interest in West Ham United flop Jordan Hugill.

Given it’s well known in the fanbase that a lack of a clinical edge in and around the box ultimately cost us the prize of promotion in 2018/19 under Marcelo Bielsa, as despite creating numerous chances each game, we just don’t get enough on target and by default in the back of the net, links with strikers were to be expected.

The Sun on Sunday (23/6 – P60) tentatively linked us and Sheffield Wednesday with having an interest in the 27-year-old and although his spell at the London Stadium after his £8million switch to them in the January 2018 window has been an absolute nightmare spell, he’s probably best known for his efforts at Preston North End.

I for one certainly don’t see us being interested in him as he hardly set the Riverside Stadium alight last year as his loan at Middlesbrough returned only six Championship goals and two assists in 20 starts and 17 substitute showings.

Both Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford offered more, and given the Sun themselves reference we’d only firm up our interest if either of our strike duo moved on, I won’t be losing any sleep over this one.

That’s before we even question the finances.
